We're Hosting a Food Drive for Students!

I'm hoping that as you read this, you're in the holiday spirit like we are! During the holidays, we look for ways to give back and help those less fortunate. This year, we've chosen to help people struggling with hunger in our community. What many might not realize is that hunger and food insecurity is also prevalent across university and college campuses, often times at a rate more than twice that of the general population. This is especially true at UNC Charlotte, our alma mater, where one in three students struggle with food insecurity, not knowing where their next meal is coming from.

The Jamil Niner Student Pantry was established in 2014 at UNC Charlotte to meet the needs of the University’s food insecure students. In 2018 – 2019, 2,680 visits were logged to the pantry. This year, the need has increased while sadly, supplies have diminished. During this time of giving, we ask that you consider helping these students by donating to a food drive that we're hosting at our store in South End. We'll have a bin set up to collect donations until Sunday, December 15.

Address: 1616 Camden Road, Suite 140, Charlotte, NC 28203.

The most needed items are dry beans, rice, ramen, and spices. A full list of needed items can be found here. In addition to these items, monetary gifts of any amount may be given to stock the shelves at crowdfund.uncc.edu/givingtuesday. A gift as little as $4.90 would buy a box of cereal and a gallon of milk.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and for helping some of the most deserving students in the country!

In Niner Spirit,

Christopher Moxley
