Fact Friday 80 – New Year, New Look

Happy Friday everyone!

The new year is upon us! Many use this time to reflect on the past and to focus on their hopes, dreams, goals and aspirations for the future. #newyearsresolutions

Just before Thanksgiving, Charlotte Stories posted a vintage North Carolina tourism video from the early 1950s. As a native Charlottean, I was naturally drawn to it. It has some great shots of some of our favorite locations, presented with a classic vintage nostalgia.

According to the post, it was one our state’s first professionally produced tourism videos and was originally sponsored by Esso Standard Oil Company, now known as Exxon (name changed Jan. 1 [New Years!], 1973).

I thought I’d share the video with you guys. If we’re going to shape this state and community into the place that we want it to be, it’s important that we have some historical context.

Wouldn’t you agree? Fredrick Douglass did. Check his quote at the end of this post.

Happy New Year! Until next week!

Chris.
