The National Archives in our nation’s capital offers many resources to research genealogy and family history. You can visit the Archives in person and they also have many resources online. But for those native to Charlotte and the region, did you know that you can #stayclosetohome and accomplish the same goal? If you’re looking to do so, I would encourage you to visit the Main Library Uptown and ask for assistance. Charlotte Agenda’s Katie Levans previously wrote an excellent piece highlighting what’s available. “Located in the Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room at Main Library Uptown, the Family Research Computer Center provides free access to local genealogy records and Ancestry.com’s library edition.” Another less-well known resource is the online “Genealogy” exhibit on CML’s Charlotte Mecklenburg Story. The page is complete with links to more information on cemeteries of Mecklenburg County, Civil War rosters of North Carolina, historical marriage, death, and divorce records, and a link to email the Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room staff your genealogy or local history questions. How’s that for accessible?!
